My First Blog

This is my first blog. I am married to a wonderful man in the Air Force and we have one child. We are currently living on RAF Lakenheath in Liberty Village. It is a new housing development, which means there is still some settling and kinks to work out, but I love my house. I'm not so fond of the back gate or the back garden.
England weather is definitely different that any other place I have lived, but it is more tolerable than the south. I can handle rain better than heat. Although, I do have to say, that it does not rain here nearly as much as people had me believe before I got here.
The British have some very tasty snacks. I am currently addicted to Happy Hippos. They have a wafer type outside with some kind of crunchies on the bottom. They are shaped like a hippo and even have eyes. They are filled with either cocoa or hazelnut and a milk cream.
Shopping is quite the experience too. My son is 8, but he is a very tall 8. The British childrens clothing does not go by sizes, but by age. My son wears a 11-12 years and it fits pretty perfect, with not a lot of room to grow into.
Every town has a market day, where vendors can come and sell food, clothes, toys, and just about anything else you can think of. I love market days. You can get some really nice looking fruits and vegetables for a very decent price.
I had to have my eye exam on the economy and during my visit I felt pushed back by a couple of decades. My doctor was set up in a tiny little room and he had a computer set up in the back corner that then reflected into a mirror at the front of the room. He then put these sci-fi looking glasses on me and proceeded to change out the lenses during my exam. The computer was the only piece of technology in the whole office. Even the front staff didn't use a computer.
I have made some really great friends too. Not just casual friends either. Real and genuine friends that would help you out in a bind. I have a good feeling these friendships will last long after the military sends us our separate ways.
I miss my family, my in laws and BFF Dawn and can't wait to go home and see them. I also hope that someday they can make it here to visit us. I would love to show them the country and castles.
